Below is a list of local venues where you can enjoy partner dancing in San Diego. Trying out your dancing in a social atmosphere can take your skills to a whole new level.

Queen Bee´s Art & Cultural Center swing ballroom dancing on San Diego's hardwood dance floor.Downbeat Big Band is great 17 piece orchestra and vocalists belting out traditional “Big Band” from the 40’s and 50’s a variety of swing music, plus waltz, nightclub two-step or cha cha. Bottled water is available. Free Queen Bee and street parking is limited. Parking across the street from Queen Bee’s at Chase Bank is $3.00. Park first, obtain a code and instructions from Queen Bee´s then return to pay station to enter code and make payment.

Balboa Park Club, ballroom dancing on San Diego's larges hardwood dance floor.
City of San Diego Park & Recreation Department’s Senior Citizen Services sponsors this long running series of ballroom dances at the historic Balboa Park Club near the International Cottages and across from the Gym. A revolving list of local bands including The Sundance Band, Encores, and Billy Harper Band play a variety of partner dances including many foxtrots, swing and Latin dances; plus a long mixer and occasional polka. The floor is probably the largest hardwood venue in town often holding 200 dancers. Chairs around the perimeter and round banquet tables at one end where hot drinks and small snacks are provided during the 2:00 PM break.

San Diego's North Par Recreation Center, refinished overize basketball court dance floor.Though one of the oldest recreation centers in San Diego it recently went through sprucing up and a refinished birch floor that makes for great dancing. The North Park Dance Band is an all volunteer orchestra playing only for the monthly dances for over 20 years. They play the traditional selection of ballroom dances swing, waltz, foxtrot and Latin. Members and vocalists add to audience pleasure with vocals. Punch and cookies are served when the band takes a break at 2 PM. Parallel and angle street parking is available in streets around the facility.

The Pier Group is 2 electronic keyboards, drummer and vocalist, Rachel Drexler, producing a wide array of easy to ballroom dance music. This a stable well known San Diego group that performs routinely plays at several venues. The Elks Club offers a large hardwood dance floor surrounding by large round banquet tables and chairs. During the first break the club provides free snacks of fruit, cheese, crunchies, coffee and water. The club bar offers beer, wine, and cocktails.

Encinitas Rotary Club sponsored senior dance at Dance North County.
The Encinitas Rotary Club sponsors a ballroom dance for seniors at Dance North County. Recorded music of 3 minute songs alternating: waltz, cha-cha, swing, rhumba, foxtrot and tango with an occasional west coast swing or night club 2-step. After the first hour there is a short period for introductions and announcement of other dances followed by a multi-song mixer of foxtrots or waltzes. Dance North County is located in an office park, with plenty of parking, a few blocks east of Interstate 5 on the south side of Encinitas Blvd. Water, juice and snacks are provided during the dance.

El Cajon Elks Club, West Coast and Ballroomdancing on hardwood dance floor.
The San Diego Swing Dance Club offers weekly West Coast Swing dances every Sunday on the El Cajon Elks Club’s almost 2,000 square foot hardwood floor with a very large table area for schmoozing and relaxing while waiting for the next dance. The club founded in 1970 offers music from a DJ following an 80/20% rule where 80% is WC Swing and the remainder everything from 2-step to waltz. First timers are warmly welcomed; a woman’s choice policy, free snacks and water is provided plus an open Elks Club bar. A group WC Swing class occupies the first hour. Free parking on the large Elks Club campus. Check their web site for details.
